Leicester Parents add their voice to campaign for a national public inquiry into maternity services

Preeti and Hrushikesh Joshi, parents of Ansh Joshi, who died two days after he was born at Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) have added their support to a new campaign calling for a national public inquiry into maternity services.

“We support the call by the Maternity Safety Alliance for a national public maternity inquiry.

We have lost our beautiful baby, Ansh, and our son will never know his brother. Ansh’s loss is felt every day. No family should ever have to experience the loss of their child.

We do not want the same mistakes to keep being made. Systemic failures need to stop happening. There needs to be long lasting change.”

We represent the couple and other families affected by failures in maternity care in the Leicestershire region.

We maintain that an independent inquiry into Leicester maternity services is needed to highlight factors at a local level, particularly because Leicester is one of the most diverse and multicultural cities in the UK.

We also fully support this fresh call for a national public inquiry into the safety of maternity services. Systemic failures in maternity care must be identified and addressed if families are reassured that they will receive the best possible care at a time when they are at their most vulnerable.
