Baby Loss Awareness Week

Baby Loss Awareness Week runs every year, and this year it is from 9 – 15 October 2023.

It is a week for everyone to come together and remember babies that have sadly been lost.

The aims of the week are:

  1. Remembrance
  2. Raising Awareness
  3. Driving Change

It is also an opportunity to:

  • To support bereaved parents and families and to unite with others across the world to commemorate their babies’ lives and lost pregnancies.
  • To raise awareness about pregnancy and baby loss.
  • To drive improvements in care and support for anyone affected and in the prevention of pregnancy and baby loss.

There is an alliance of charities and organisations that are working together to raise awareness of pregnancy and baby loss. These organisations can also offer support for families who have suffered baby loss. They are:

SANDS

TOMMY’S

A pregnancy charity working to make the UK the safest place to give birth – https://www.tommys.org/about-us.

THE LULLABY TRUST

A charity working to raise awareness of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) – https://www.lullabytrust.org.uk/

THE ECTOPIC PREGNANCY TRUST

A charity who support people who suffer an ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy that implants outside of the womb and is a life-threatening condition – https://ectopic.org.uk/.

MISCARRIAGE ASSOCIATION

A charity who supports people who have suffered a miscarriage – https://www.miscarriageassociation.org.uk/

Wave of Light

On 15 October 2023 there will be a wave of light to commemorate the babies that have been lost. Everyone is encouraged to light a candle and share photos or videos of their candles on social media.
