Patient safety concerns at Minehead Community Hospital

The overnight service in the Minor Injury Unit at Minehead Community Hospital in Somerset is to be closed for 4 months due to concerns about patient safety. The Somerset NHS Foundation Trust health managers raised concerns that there were delays in providing emergency care to patients who had suffered serious conditions, including strokes, heart attacks or major trauma. We have seen the terrible, and often tragic impact, that delays in emergency care can cause and welcome the decision of the Trust to temporarily close the department and review the service.
