Two hospitals have been ordered to improve maternity services after the health watchdog, The Care Quality Commission (CQC) said they did not always have enough staff to “keep women and babies safe”. After whistle-blowers reported fears over staffing levels, the CQC inspected Colchester General and Ipswich Hospital, which are both run by East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

It has to be hoped that appropriate measures will now be put in place to reassure patients that their care will not be compromised due to staff shortages.
